Take a short stroll or horse tram ride over the wooden causeway that connects the mainland at Victor Harbor to Granite Island Recreation Park. Enjoy the coastal scenery and discover the island's interesting history along the Kaiki Walk or go fishing from the jetty, or causeway (no fishing from breakwater). You may even spot a southern right whale between June and October.

this small island is a nice walk for ocean views and rugged shore. Reasonable walking trails and a few good photo opportunities

It is a lovely walk across the jettied causeway to Granite Island and around the island itself. In all, about 3-4 km. I would suggest going clockwise as steps get you to the high point that way whereas it would be a long drag the...More

Hubby and I decided to walk out to the island and then walk the path around it. Spectacular sea views, plants and the occasional sighting of wildlife - mainly birds. The lovely draught horse pulling the tram gave this sight history. We didn't stop to...More

This is an easy and lovely walk. Wonderful views and we saw quite a bit of wildlife. I would recommend if you have the time.

The penguins were mostly hiding when we visited, however the island is good for a medium-long walk. Not too busy.

While it's a bit of a walk to get to Granite Island, it's well worth it for the spectacular vistas. Take your camera! Be aware though - the stairs make for a steep climb; it can be cold and windy so take a jacket. And...More

Coming from Kangaroo Island we stopped at Vic Harbour for 1 night on our way to the Grampians. Although the town itself is really touristic, there are a lot of things to do: visiting the whale museum or taking a walk in some of the...More

The stroll or horse drawn tram ride along the pier to Granite Island is lovely. The island itself is home to a myriad of birds - quail, penguins, oyster catches, honey waters, etc. There are also some great views of large boulders that have fallen...More

Made the walk over to Granite Island at night to see the penguins. Didn't see any unfortunately but, did see a few of possums and still had a great time with family. I recommend the trip over. Enjoy!

Questions & AnswersAsk a question
Can someone please tell me the cost of the penguin tour on Granite Island please? And given its late departure time, is it suitable for small children (under 4). I would prefer not to keep them out late at night if they're only maybe going to see one or two penguins. Thank you

Can I take my dogs for a walk with me and partner around the island

I'm afraid not - dogs and cats are prohibited - there are even spot fines for anyone who misses/ignores the signs. Walk out to the Bluff instead just along the coast a bit at Encounter Bay
