Overview
More
the Steamtown Heritage Rail Centre is a museum where people can sit in the historic carriages; enter the driver's cabins of the various locomotives and marvel at the rolling stock in the 1926 built roundhouse and admire the still functioning turntable what has all 3 gauges. Steamtown is ideal for families and is pet friendly also. Stay the night in Peterborough and attend the stunning sound and Light show that tells the story of the creation of Peterborough, about railways in South Australia and the history and personal stories associated with it and the linking of East Australia to West Australia

We went to the night light show and it was excellent. Using a range of technical effects we were given a history of the local area through the history of the railway. A must see

If you're interested in railway history then this is a must.....& even if you're not it's enlightening. So much of railway history is linked to the social history of the time & the "sound & light" show illustrates this beautifully. The only negative for me...More

We came back to Peterborough just to visit this Museum. Worth the effort. Our Guide was knowledgeable, patient and helpful. The tour included steam trains, diesel trains and period carriages from the 1890s to 1940s approx. Inside the wagons, the restoration was detailed and authentic...More

Saw the Sound and Light last night and went on the tour of the works this afternoon. A voyage through the time through the history of the engines and carriages. Both were intertwined with the European history of the district and the town. All we...More
