This beautiful property was home to the famous landscape painter Hans Heysen who made the iconic redgums from the Flinders Rangers prominent in the 1920's. He shared this home with his wife Sally and eight children. The beautiful gardens inspired his painting. They are well...More

We visited the Cedars twice with visitors from overseas last year and I was surprised at the other art that Hans Heysen created. The tour of the house and the gardens was a delight. Well worth a stop if you are in the Hahndorf area.

Loved this place - and on future trips to Adelaide it will be high on my list. The guided tour of Hans Heysen's family home was so interesting. Would have loved to see the kitchen area however it was off limits. His studio has to...More

The studio displays nice art work. Guided tour is recommended. However, we visited with 2 year old child and therefore could not attend the tour. We had to stay outside the studio. Garden around the house is well maintained and beautiful.

The Cedars is well known as the previous home of Hans Heysen. It is located a couple of kilometres from the town, but a perfect location for a wedding. It was raining when we got there, but staff were on hand with umbrellas while they...More

Hans Heysen and his studio left in situ as when he worked there. You can also tour his house but we went for look at studio and followed a little trail to his favoured trees. Wow! Great gum trees! And atmospheric studio with some paintings...More

The tour was very informative, the art work was lovely, but several pieces have been damaged by water. Bags have to be left at the front desk, so if you have a large bag, you may want to leave it in your car.

What an awesome place. It provides a perfect place to showcase one of the greatest Australian artists, Han Heysen and his daughter Nora Heysen. Now in the hands of the Heysen Foundation, the two studios and the family home provide the perfect backdrop for original...More

I have always admired Hans Heysen's paintings but to visit his lovely home and studio was a special treat. Nora Heysen's studio is also open to the public. The house contains many items of original furniture and paintings.

It's quite a walk but a short taxi drive.. I'd suggest taking a taxi as it won't be too expensive and shame to miss it. The Handorf tourist office is on the main street too and they should be able to help you with a taxi.

Hi, There are 2 tours I think. One just to the studio, maybe need 30 minutes. I assume they still do a tour of the home, probably need 1.5 hrs. But it would be flexible.
