TYTO Wetlands, a 120 hectare rehabilitated wetland area, home to unique flora and fauna including over 240 species of birds (27.4% of Australia's bird species in one location) and many Agile Wallabies. With extensive walking tracks, bird hides and viewing platforms, it is a great way to get up close and personal to wildlife with the most rewarding experiences found in the early morning or late afternoon. Explore on your own or take a tour with our expert guides. Maps, bird lists and local tips are available from the Information and Wetlands Centre to enhance your experience. Short on time? Meander along the modern architectural walkways of TYTO that represent the bins vital to the regions mainstay industry sugar cane or connect via casual pathways, bridges over lagoons and through wooded parklands to scale the 11m observation tower for a birds eye view. Watch the many species that inhabit the TYTO main lagoon or view the lay of the land. A great photo opportunity!

Had a terrific time exploring Tyto in the rain. Lots of lilies in flower and unfortunately, hundreds of baby cane toads. Nice friendly staff in the information centre which was very well set up and had umbrellas for use by visitors. The only down side I could comment on is that it would be nice if there were printed maps... More

If you're visiting Ingham, then the VIC and wetlands are highly recommended. Easy walking and great service from the staff and volunteers at the VIC.

This is a lovely little gem in Ingham. It's free to enter and you can walk around on your own and enjoy the wildlife. You can take a guided tour at a cost but it only runs on certain days. There is a restaurant and art gallery. If you are organised it would be a nice spot to have a... More

On a recent Far North Queensland road trip, we had a lunch break at Ingham, and were recommended by a local shopkeeper to visit the Tyto Wetlands precinct. It is located on the southern side of Ingham, a short distance from the main shopping area. From our observations, it looks to be a relatively new project for the Ingham township.... More

We were there first thing in the morning. Quiet walk to the wetland edge seeing lots of birds along the way. Then around to the hide with grebes and herons and waterfowl everywhere. So nice we could have spent hours here.

The TYTO Wetlands ( named after a type of barn owl) is well worth a quick visit of 30 mins or few hours. Allow time to absorb this natural wetland that is home to numerous variety of bird life, thousands of frogs, lizards, possums. There is a elevated walkway that starts at the info centre curling its way to the... More

We have been wanting to visit Tyto for some time and it did not disappoint. The wetlands are beautiful, the paths well set out and well maintained. Visit the information first (good for kids) and make sure you take your camera and binoculars. The complex itself is impressive and well used as a community and visitor facility so check out... We were fortunate that it was a lovely cool evening for a stroll & the best part was there were no mossies :-) We walked along the walkways to the cultural centre which was closed at the time then strolled back through the bush, cane displays & around the wetlands. Very peaceful & beautiful. Huge turtles swimming amongst the lilly... More
