Unfortunately Rock Lea is now a private home and no longer functions as an activity centre. Many apologies to the family who arrived hoping to go caving: we trust you found plenty of other things to do in Hathersage.

We did a 10 mile circular walk, starting & finishing in Hathersage. Really good network of footpaths, clearly marked & well maintained. This is a beautiful location with stunning views & well worth the effort up walk up the hill. It is clearly a popular area for walkers & climbers, but you can understand why. It is definitely worth a visit, but try & pick a sunny/clear day to enjoy the excellent views.

I must be honest - I had some trepidations about caving as a total beginner at my age however I enjoyed the whole experience very much. The hospitality at Rock Lea was fantastic and we started off with welcoming refreshments and then being kitted up with our caving gear. Iain gave us some interesting information about the geology and the types of fossils we may find during our journey underground and then we set off with our caving guides Tony and Glenn. Although the weather was awful as we drove to our cave entrance (Giant's Hole) Tony pointed out features on the way and explained how they related to the cave we were going to explore as well as other interesting facts about caving and the area. Into the cave - wet and dark - but fully kitted up with our headlamps shining the way ahead. Absolutely amazing! We saw waterfalls and stalactites and tiny tiny little fossils in the rock that were once little creatures many many thousands of years ago (I think!). Thank you to Tony for sharing your knowledge about all things underground and to all at Rock Lea for your hospitality and making my first caving experience so memorable! PS - I am coming back!

Brilliant! The team were very friendly and welcoming, they even had a lovely pot of tea for us when we arrived and when we got back. Ian and Jon are a wealth of knowledge on the area and in general. Jon took us on a beginners pot holing day trip, which we were all a bit skeptical of, due to the high rainfall the night before and the tight spaces, Jon made it seem simple and perfectly safe, which it was after we questioned him on the ground water situation. i would recommend Peak Adventures to anyone wanting to get a proper sense of the Peak District and of Derbyshire Hospitality.
