All Roads Lead to Rome

We visited this little museum on a bank holiday expecting it to be busy only to find we were the only ones there. The chap manning the reception was very friendly and the entrance price was perfectly reasonable, sometimes people forget that museums actually cost money to operate!

The museum consists of two rooms full of Roman artefacts found in the area. The exhibits are well displayed and the information is interesting and puts the pieces into context.

Outside there are great views if the harbour and coastline. Unfortunately when we visited the tower was locked up which I'm guessing was due to the Covid restrictions. However all in all a very enjoyable way to spend an hour or so, and all for the price of a pint!

A quirky little museum.

Although small, the museum manages to cover the history of the port and shipbuilding. Fascinating to a maritime buff.

Not only somewhere to walk round and look at exhibits, but they have a mini reference Library/reading room with loads of local books and directories dating back many Years. The Staff are loaded with information about the Town too.

I am local to the area and visited the museum a long time ago.

Visited today with my wife and neice and we found it very interesting.

The staff were very welcoming and extremely knowledgeable.

I recommend this place to find out the history of Maryport if your stopping by or live locally.

Visited Maryport on a day out and found the Maritime Museum by chance so gave it a tour.
Having paid the entrance fee of £3, we started our look around and found some very interesting items, particularly about The Titanic and the Maritime business men associated with Cumbria.
Don't expect to be here for a long visit as the museum is only relatively small and does not have good access for disabled visitors.
Worth a visit if you are interested in boats and boat making.

The most grateful staff in the world

This is a small museum that isn't going to blow you away with the quality of its exhibits, but the passion of its staff will. Lots of drawings and maps and dressing up stuff for the kids with pleasing "Please touch" signage and a decent amount of stuff about the town, its rise and fall and the various characters (some very famous ones) that the town's produced that'll keep adults amused. If you have time their library seemed to be excellent and I think you could happily sit and browse all day if you have any interest in maritime affairs.
