About
The Lake District Coast Aquarium is a well established visitor attraction situated on the harbourside of Maryport, a small town with Roman roots on the scenic Solway Firth coastline. The Aquarium displays contain mainly native species and are fully documented, so of interest to all generations and levels of interest. Tickets allow re-entry so the full range of aquarist talks and feeding demonstrations can be enjoyed. The aquarium has a popular Cafe serving a wide range of meals and refreshments overlooking the harbour. The Cafe is open every day to all comers, including those with well behaved dogs! During cold weather a wood burning stove provides a cosy atmosphere. The Gift shop is popular with locals as well as visitors thanks to a wide range of themed goods, ranging from pocket money toys to household furnishings. Outside is a 14 hole crazy golf course that is very popular as there is no age limit to getting involved with the fun! Now FREE with your admission ticket.

Fantastic aquarium with plenty to see and do. The toddler loved it, and was mesmerised by the fish. She gets so excited by the large tanks and big fish. Lovely cafe at the end for a coffee or spot of lunch. Will definitely come again.

This place is a little gem, full of exhibits, information and friendly knowledgeable staff. We spent 3 hours here and spent time with the staff who were passionate about what they do. Tanks are immaculately clean and each one has an information board. Good flow through from stream to river to sea. Nice cafe for lunch or a snack and friendly staff.

Great little aquarium for the size with a good range of marine and native species especially. The lobster hatchery was really interesting. It would be great to have more signage to be able to distinguish between some of the species and better information on conservation efforts and threats to many species such as bycatch and plastic pollution. The cafe was cute, nice setting and good menu for veggie and vegan but the amount of fish on the menu is quite stifling. Kids spend the afternoon learning and falling in love with our aquatic life and then go to the cafe for deep fried prawns. It’s a bit counter intuitive and tourist attractions should do more to promote their ethos.

Decided to go as our 4 year olds request was to go to the aquarium. Living in dumfries We had already done two in scotland in the last few years so didnt fancy trecking back to same places so decided to see what others were around and google revealed this one. Really good experience and a good variety of fish to see and tanks were well maintained. We were given a sheet to tick them off. Very impressed by the sting rays and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Crazy golf was included in the ticket which was good. Family of 3 were £24.50 which is ok but like all attractions i do wish with this cost of living crisis they made it more affordable for all families as its important to educate the world as much as we can about our oceans.

Much better displays than the south queensferry one.

Great adventure playground outside.

4 year old Son loved it and asked if we can go back tomorrow.

My wife and I took our grandchildren there for the day and we were all blown away with all the tanks of fish and exhibits. The aquarium was well set out and had a wave pool crashing down from rocks at the back of one of their tanks which was very realistic. The children's section was great, they had colouring in books for the kids to use along with numerous other things to keep them occupied. After visiting the aquarium we popped into their restaurant and had lunch which was poor in comparison to our last visit, two of the meals were so bad that I had to complain and the price of the two meals was refunded. Well done to the owner and his staff for providing the public with such a great attraction, we will definitely go back again in the future but we won't be having lunch there again.

Visited today (Saturday) before heading north, home. Arrived at 1030 to a fairly busy car park, but as we found out this wasn’t just for visitors to the aquarium. We bought a family ticket for £31 for 2 adults and 2 kids. For this you also get a free round of mini golf around the outskirts of the centre.

It was definitely a family friendly venue as the kids were issued pencils and wee scoring charts with a list of sea life for them to find on the walk round. There aquarium was split into different zones which gave the walk round more of a flow and kept your interest up. The wee man was amazed by seeing the octopus and our daughter and I were transfixed on the conger eel waiting to see if one would leave its hide. There was a great section showing the full life span of a lobster from larvae to full grown animal and this was fascinating to see how small they were. There was similar with jelly fish and seeing them as tiny 1’mm organisms floating around was far more impressive than seeing the full grown version in the next tank. The rest of the walk round kept the kids interested peaked enough to stop them getting bored and the visit took around 45mins to complete. From there we went outside to play the mini golf. This was an added bonus which lasted about an hour and the kids and us adults really enjoyed the challenge. Once we were done with that we had a quick snack in the cafe before heading to the park to finish our visit.

It was a good visit but similarly to the Macduff aquarium it takes less than an hour for kids so young to get round the whole place. Again similar to Macduff some of the tanks etc could do with being refreshed or modernised but all in all a good end to our holiday.
