An exhilarating drive particularly if you also go over the Hardknott pass as well. The road from Langdale is currently very pot-holed. The pass comes into its own for walkers by saving them 1000 feet of height gain from the valley floor.

Fantastic route, not for the feint hearted, I think the route from Eskdale to Grasmere is the most scenic. Give it a go you won't be disappointed.

What a great drive on a very wet March day. The very narrow road is full of twists and turns. At times your going up a very steep hill nearly on full lock in first gear! Lovely views everywhere It really is worth making the effort. Could be too much traffic in summer though. At times you have to reverse... More

Stunning views but not for the faint hearted. My partner hated it, the road is narrow, twisty, and has sheer drops.

Great views and well worth the drive. Were a little sceptical about the drive reading other reviews but do not be put off, it is not like the scene from the Italian job!!!! The biggest issue is finding it as the gps does not recognise the road in one direction. We went in February 2017 (the day after storm Doris),... More

Amazing countryside views walks driving and sheep. Back of beyond and quiet at this time out of main holiday season. A real treat to visit and experience. Gods country.

If you want to go from Ambleside to Wastwater this is the shortest route. Beware some of its is very steep especially the hairpins. Some stretches are quite thin too. It's doable on a bicycle if you're a good hill climber.

I came over the Hardknott Pass and the overwhelming relief when I got to the valley at the bottom was quickly snuffed out when I looked around me and saw mountains everywhere and realised with a sinking feeling that there was going to be another horrendous pass. I thought about turning round but couldn't face doing Hardknott again. It can't... More

Not quite as scary as Hardknott Pass but an interesting drive and also has lovely views. Definitely worth the drive - as long as you are a reasonably competent driver - not for the nervous beginner
