Very glad to have stopped here. An impressive ruin, the castle offers a fair bit to explore and great views from the keep. There are some interesting medieval carvings inside the castle.

Another nice Cumbrian castle tucked away, it takes about an hour to walk around with lots to see. There are a lot of the ruins left standing so there's lots to explore.

This lovely ruin has inspired both poetry and painting, and for good reason. And despite the fact it is a ruin, the 13th century keep is largely intact(!). Well worth a visit.

Brougham Castle is a great ruin! Although the grand chambers are no more, the descriptions on the site give a good impression of the castle, its workings and fortifications. It takes an hour or so to see, The spiral staircase to the keep gives a...More
