This is a great hike up to the observation point, maybe 3 miles from town (just a guess) and uphill most of the way. I walked Calle Ibarra to the west from town, through poor and middle class neighborhoods. Just keep heading uphill. This route popular with local joggers and cyclists. Partway up is Eco Hotel Ixhi which has a... More

I love Patzcuaro but needed a 'country' fix and this did it. The other reviews are right just follow Ponce de Leon (runs next to the main Plaza) and it will cross the highway. Take any road that goes 'up' and it will the the right one. You can ask people on the way just to confirm. You will pass... More

This attraction is easy to get to and you can take an easy hike or drive to the top. The view from the top is incredible and you can explore the area or just sit and view.

Take the cobblestone street up the hill to the best view of Lake Patzcuaro. Many jog or walk up the scenic road, but driving is easy also. From the Plaza Grande, take Ponce de Leon out of town and up the hill. You will not be sorry.

You can park at the Autozone on the west side of town and start your hike there or you can drive all the way to the overlook if you'd prefer. This is a fairly easy hike of a couple of miles but it does go up in elevation to almost 9,000 feet so take it easy if you're new to... More

a nice shaded climb out of town, take it easy if you are newly arrived at altitude, it is a little dispiriting when you are huffing and puffing to have someone jog past you, in my fitness defense, I was coming down with a cold. the views are good, don't forget to carry some water. allow a little longer than... This a wonderful place for your morning walk. The initial climb is steady. Just when you think you are at the top you see the steep stairs to the actual summit. These steps up to the top will dust off the cardiovascular system. One can see all of Patzcuaro, as well as the lake.

It's a hill with a view that gives a panoramic vista of Lake Pátzcuaro and of Pátzcuaro itself. As to the "Volcan" description, it is the cinder cone remnant of a no longer active volcano. But if you want a great view, it's Pátzcuaro's premier viewpoint.

We always enjoy hiking up Estribo Grande. (you may also drive up) Indeed, it does have excellent views of Patzcuaro, Lake Patzcuaro, and Isla de Janitzio. After arriving at the lookout, you may also choose to go up 418 steps to the REAL TOP. Unfortunately, last week Estribo was on fire! It's all still passable, however, much of the underbrush... More
