Enjoyed learning about rug hooking

We had been reading about rug hooking in the area and really enjoyed seeing some examples and learning the history in their museum. The lady even demonstrated how to do it.

This small museum is a Must-Do if you are interested in the amazing hooked rug masterpieces of Elizabeth LeFort. It is truly incredible that she was able to recreate pictures in such detail using rug-hooking techniques. She even dyed her own wool to create all the different colors she needed. The rugs hanging in this museum are really unbelievable! It... More

Les Trois Pignons contains the tourism center in Chéticamp, so definitely go there for information about this picturesque and lively Acadian village, but also stay to tour the rug-hooking museum in the same building. Rug hooking has been for many generations as much a cottage industry on Cape Breton as it has been a fine art. The museum exhibit is... More

Before you pass on this, stop and visit. It is a wealth of information on the traditional hooked rug art in the area. My husband liked it as much as I did - they are amazing!

If you are interested in rug hooking or weaving or in the history of Cheticamp then make sure you stop here. Give yourself about 30 - 40 minutes to view the exhibit. They also have a good gift shop.

You may, as I did, have absolutely no interest in the traditional Acadian art of hooking rugs, but if you find yourself anywhere on beautiful Cape Breton Island I urge you to make your way to the building Les Trois Pignons (Three Gables) that is home to La Societe Sainit-Pierre at 15584 Cabot Trail in Cheticamp, Cape Breton Island, Nova... This museum is both about the history of Cheticamp and the surroundings and about hooked rugs making. Hooked rug crafting was at a certain time of the Cheticamp history an important source of employment for women and half of the museum is dedicated to this activity. It is really astonishing to see few of the master works created with this... More

This information center in Chéticamp has a little museum with hooked rugs and also a geneology center where you can look up family histories.
