Stopped here on a Viking Cruise lines trip, "In the Wake of the Vikings". This site is a mixture of reconstructed buildings with re-enacting "Vikings" and the remnant foundations of the actual Viking buildings. Once you have seen this, you must watch at least the...More

This was the culmination of a northeast road trip for my wife and I, including the cabot trail and the viking trail and it did not disappoint! The entire site is fascinating and set in incredibly picturesque scenery, it is well worth the trip. We...More

This is the only confirmed site of Viking habitation or landing in North America. The site was excavated in 1960 and the foundations of dwellings, huts, workshops, a forge/smithy/furnace and boat-repair were found. They made bog iron here, as well, in seasonal settlements. The foundations...More

Our visit to the authenticated Viking site brought history to life. The Visitor Centre was educational and the tour guide who walked with us along the boardwalk was excellent. The reconstructed sod buildings are set up as they would have been when inhabited by the...More

We were here in September on a beautiful warm day. The location is beautiful. As others have said, you start at the Visitors' Center. Watching the film is a good way to orient yourself before going out to the boardwalk to walk through the area...More

While archaeologists still debate whether this site is a Viking settlement or an early First Nation settlement, the re-imagined restoration is a great visit. Enthusiastic guides and re-enactors portray a sophisticated settlement with a blacksmith, a weaver, a miller, and some agricultural tools. The main...More

This is a fascinating site. The Visitor's Centre has a video and a model of the area during the time of the Norse as well as artifacts discovered in the area to show that the Norse were there e.g. iron nail, cloak pin. A boardwalk...More

This was a very windy, cold site in late September but worth every minute. The model was what I expected so I was not disappointed. The actual site of the building is very close. It was too windy to take the walk around the cliff...More
