Spent time going around the conservation site learning about the great work that's carried out here and had the opportunity to set 3 day old baby sea turtles free into the ocean in the early evening. Truly amazing experience!!

Really great place to see turtle conservation. Guides are keen to explain about turtles, what breeds are found in Sri Lankan waters and there general life cycle. Baby turtles can be seen as well as rescue turtles that are not suitable for release into the wild. The volunteers who run the conservation project have done a great job protecting the... More

A well-maintained hatchery that watches after the turtles and release them into the sea. Charges a 50 rs ticket from locals (unsure how much it is for foreigners, but hopefully not more than 100 bucks) locals in the area bring them eggs when they find it on the beach so that they are protected from predetors as well as humans... This was a venue that we were taken to by our driver as it was something that we particularly wanted to see on our Sri Lanka tour. I am so glad we did it. The place itself is not very big or sophisticated which in a way is a good thing as any money they have is hopefully used for... More

Eggs baby's youths loads of turtles here, rare females kept for five year to help them survive. Also a home for disabled turtles caught in nets. A good project. Worth visiting and supporting.

visited this place on my way back to colombo. The place was not renovated or improved in anyway. Because i was a local they were hesitant to give me a guide. so i had to read the boards and educate my self. even for me to do that i felt like there wasnt enough presentation or information available. overall i... Special thanks to all at this deserving project, who do such a wonderful job. The tour is very interesting showing the difficulties that these turtles have to endure, not only from the natural predators , but shamefully from man who tries to make a buck or 2 by stealing and selling turtle eggs. Please give generously to enable this tremendous... More

Last time we visited Kosgoda was just before the Tsunami which wiped Dudley,s whole project out including the turtles he had had for years. Lovely to see the project is thriving again after having to rebuild everything. In the 1990,s on our first visit we were made very welcome by the whole family and it was fantastic to catch up... We were wary of the many turtle farms and hatcheries in Sri Lanka, most of which seem to have little care for conservation and are purely for profit, so we did a lot of research and found this to be exactly what we wanted - education, animal welfare and conservation. We took a tuk-tuk from Hikkaduwa (about 50mins and 4000... More

This is a wonderful stop on the coast road between Galle and Colombo. Firstly, Kosgoda beach is beautiful and worth a look on its own. The sea turtle project is the highlight of the stop (and there are several along the road in close proximity, so make sure you stop at the right one). The odds against sea turtles surviving... More
