Despite construction, we were able to take in the views in all four directions. The growth of Bismarck since her last visit was especially noted by my mother.

The North Dakota State Capitol Building is shocking in appearance.... simply because it looks so unlike anything you would expect a capitol to look like. It's just an ugly 19-story office building. No character; no artistic features; no architectural appeal; no creativity. Incredibly boring. I'm...More

This is a stunning building. The top floor views are amazing, though the lift only goes to the second highest floor and you have to walk the internal last floor so wheelchair access wouldnt be good. The grounds are immaculate with plenty of gardens to...More

This is a unique capitol. From the front it is not balanced. The tower is to the side of center. The public and important rooms are on the first two floors. There are really great Art Deco accents on the legislative floor. You can go...More

I have visited nearly 30 state capitol buildings but this is the first time I have been in one without a dome. The building is a 70’s looking high rise of 18 storeys. There is plenty of free parking (with specific parts designated “Visitor Parking”...More

Go early in day and see the great view of the city. People are very nice. They should add a coffee shop up there.

We were in the capital building (the tallest habitable building in the state) for business and saw there was a (free) tour being given and joined it. An interesting tour about the history of the building, a look inside the chambers and a great view...More

We typically try to visit any state capital building we can....we have been to maybe 30....this one in ND was different in that it is a very utilitarian - a skyscraper-type built in the 1930's, with some art deco type flair. A mini - Empire...More

This capitol building is 18 floors tall rather than the traditional dome. It is hard to believe that the legislature only meets every other year. The interior of the building is opulent and the observation tower provides an expansive view of the surrounding area.
