God's Acre cemetery is beautifully manicured and well maintained. It is located just a block north (up hill) from Main Street in historic Old Salem and contains many grave stones dating back to the colonial era.

Grounds supervisor took a moment to talk to us about some key aspects of the cemetery. Explained the separation of men and women. They also separated married and single people in burial.

I stayed at a nearby hotel and ventured out to explore the area and found God's Acre. What a beautiful cemetery with lots of history. Great place to walk and reflect on the lives who came before me.

There are lots of skeletons here organized by sex, marital status and age...it makes it easier to find just the right skeleton to bring back to friends and family after a great vacation in Winston-Salem. Mother was pleased.

Unique tranquility and history worthy of experiencing any day by foot, by Segway tour, or by Old Salem ticketed tour. Well manicured adjacent to awesome University with City skyline in background, generating a permanent and worthy memory :-)

It was amazing to see how they buried their people, even till this day. Men on one side, women on the other side, children the same way, with boys beneath the men and girls beneath the women. They are also perfectly aligned in straight rows.
