Our book club visited three weeks after Hurricane Florence. Despite the piles of debris, we enjoyed walking around the historic district. Taking two walking tours made what we saw more meaningful.

Compares to Savannah and Charleston. Beautiful area. Plenty of historic houses, shopping, dining. Everything with a few square miles.

The trolley driver knew Wilmington's historic district very well. He gave a steady commentary with some humorous remarks. I especially liked the rooster on the Presbyterian church.

The historic district of Wilmington is beautiful. I highly recommend taking the trolley tour. Its on a trolly with horses. The horses are all saved from farms. Our trolly guy was amazing, informative and so animated. We saw beautiful homes and beautiful southern gas lamps...More

So many wonderful little shops in old buildings along cobble streets. Plenty of parking if you don't mind a little walk.

The historic district may not be as famous as the southern sisters of Charleston and Savannah but Wilmington makes for a nice walk/ride through as well. Especially along the river and the streets up to #5.

It was really hot during the day so we opted to do inside activities but went out at about 5pm to stroll the streets. Lots of shops to browse in and a nice walk along the river. Highly recommend. We stayed in the downtown area...More

Our carriage ride started at 11 am and lasted 30 minutes. You ride around a few of the blocks in the downtown district. It's not very far. Apparently there are different routes. Our driver said we got tour number 3, not... More

We did not book carriage ride or meals in advance, but don't about the summer months. Park at the parking garage. Think there is only one public parking garage in the historic district.
