What a great place to spend a couple of hours with friends learning about the history of the railroads in southeast North Carolina. The model train exhibit is a must see for all ages. It will bring back childhood memories and peak the interest of the younger generations. Our friend has trouble walking and the museum was kind enough to... More

If you love trains or have young children with you, do not pass up a visit to this wonderful museum. It is absolutely fantastic. Go all the way to the back past the museum part, that's where all the great running trains are that the kids can push buttons to make go. There are trains for all ages. One of... More

This museum is interactive on so many levels. My husband and grandsons were totally engrossed and entertained. They were able to push lots of buttons and watch things go, climb, explore, and even go on a 'scavenger hunt' in one of the exhibits. I think they might have even learned a thing or two about trains.

We wanted to see what the railroad museum looked like lit up for Christmas. They had a special viewing from 6:30 to 8:30 pm on Friday night for $5 a person. It was a nice exhibit and they decorated some of the scenes with Christmas decorations. We visited the museum over the summer an wanted to see what changed. Well... More

It is an interesting collection of trains and railroad history and operates as a not for profit to preserve the details of the railroads in and around Wilmington and they do a reasonably good job.It is in Nutt Street not far from the centre of town and close to the river front and worth a visit.

Being a Railway enthusiast from Australia we were holidaying in Wilmington NC we visited this railway museum .Wefound it great not a large museum but the items were great. The miniature railway layout was great as well as all the other items there. The. Locomotive was good to see over as well as the box car and caboose.

A cool little museum. Even a very nice model railroad exhibit. A good historical example of old railway kit.

THIS PLACE IS GREAT! It is the cutest, best, railroad museum ever! Now...yes...there are only a couple of the full size beasts outside and these are great to have a look at and satisfy all but the ardent rail buffs need for steel wheelers but INSIDE! OH MY. EVERY....EVERY small boy's (and big men's) dream come true. I am not... More

First and foremost, the museum is in the historical train station. A small venue, very well-done with lots of artifacts to tell the story of the history and significance of the major railroad company to Wilmington. Different rooms. The model train room was interactive. Another room geared just for children. Plus, very cool to walk in a locomotive, box car... More

This may be a small museum but it is packed with a lot! We went during Surfer's Healing and our son was enthralled with the interactive features. We enjoyed the interaction with the great volunteers and their knowledge and enthusiasm.
