Wow! who would have thought there was such a place and in the quaint little town of Waxhaw, NC. Lived in this area over 20 years and never knew it existed. A must see for anyone interested in knowing how languages and alphabets originated. A group of us went there this morning and we all shall go back. The Alphabet... More

This truly is a gem of a museum. Traces the history of alphabets from early civilizations up through modern times. Very interesting to see how varied alphabets can be from one part of the world to the other.

Jaars is best visited on one of its frequent open house days, because the story of the Museum is best understood by the knowing the function of the people of Jaars. The aviation service provided by Jaars is a big contributor to the incredibly skilled work of the people described in the Museum of the Alphabet, by taking linguists into... More

This free museum at the JAARS center south of Waxhaw is a very interesting place to learn more about how different cultures and peoples created their alphabets. Great for all ages.

We took a day trip to JAARS in April. We thought the introduction and overview of the organization was very helpful and instructional. They have a pleasant lunch room with great choices which are delicious. We had the chicken parmesan which was over the top delicious and bountiful. Desserts were good also. Prices for lunch are very reasonable. We learned... More

This museum is part of the JAARS center in Waxhaw, NC - you can find all about it on-line...and find out when the next JAARS day is so that you get the total experience...including the museums (the Mexico museum is there also). You'll meet some great people, you'll always feel welcomed...and you'll come away much richer for the experience.

I always learn something when I visit the Museum of the Alphabet. Not all languages use alphabets, so not all languages are included.

What a discovery! Much too much to absorb in one visit, this museum traces the evolution of all languages from pre-history to current day. It's a fascinating journey and anyone who is interested in languages, cultures, and how the various lingual branches evolved should pay this little museum a visit. Any students doing research around these topics would have a... More

Awesome small museum. The family who runs the Museum did an excellent job researching the story of how the different languages begun. Kids always enjoyed a visit to this local Museum.
