It was a quiet cloudy Tuesday at the park and ferry rides were running every hour at the half hour (as stated by a large and clear sign near the Visitor's Center). As seen above, dogs are not allowed on the ferry under any circumstances...More

We had to wait over 90 minutes to get the next available seats on the ferry to Bear Island. Unfortunately, the little ones did not handle the wait time as the heat was too much, so we can to cancel our excursion and swimming plans.

This place is great! The ferry ride is short and cheap ($5 per adult) to this secluded beach. It is about a half mile walk from the ferry to the beach and it can get quite hot! There is only really 1 spot to stop...More

Hammocks Beach is such a hidden treasure, especially compared to the overly developed beaches around Emerald Isle. There is a really nice visitor center with a few interpretive displays and a great shaded porch overlooking the marsh. From there you take the ferry across the...More

A fun, relaxing place to visit. The ferry ride is cheap and scenic. The beach is pristine and not crowded at all. It goes on for miles. It is a bit of a walk from the dock to the beach, but some volunteer guy picked...More

We took the ferry for $5 per person. Seniors are $3, 6-12 year olds are $3, under 5 years old are free, and over 62 is also $3. Very secluded beach, very clean. Easy to find sand dollars! There are life guards. It is a...More

Our trip to Bear Island while vacationing in Emerald Isle was the favorite thing we did according to my family. We had debated between Shackleford and Bear Island. Ultimately, the restroom facilities and cheaper ferry ride won out. The ferry ride over to the island...More

Easy trip on a ferry--only $5 and kids are free (5 and under I think). It's a great place to hang at the beach. We were there in June and it wasn't crowded at all. There's not much there by way of facilities--just the basics...More

Easy trip on ferry, and only $5 per person. Walk across island is almost entirely in full sun, so prepared in heat. Restrooms and snack pavilion for day use. Take a walk along the beach, no one in sight!! We didn't find great shells, but...More

It is round trip, they take your ticket at the dock. You have no ticket for return, but there is only the one ferry service. They come back every half hour to get people off the island. Basically if you are on the island... More
