Beautiful area, but tough kayak trip over to the beach, especially for non-kayakers. Lots of kayak "trails" in the marsh, though. There is a boat that takes people over to the beach. The beach is pretty and deserted, but looks similar to other beaches in the area.

This was my first visit to the park in about eight years. The state has spent money on it, putting up a visitors center with.displays and new bathhouse and refreshment stand on Bear Island. It's worth the $5 for adults or $3 for seniors and children to visit if you have at least three or four hours. If you want... More

This was a great ride on a ferry with a great boat captain! If you are not able to walk far stay on land. It is a tuff walk for the handicap from the landing to the beach. BUT, it is worth the view if you can make it. Do not linger at the beach as you need to allow... More

Our first time at Hammocks Beach State park while exploring the area. What a beautiful place.....picnic tables, about 11 very rustic, walk-in camp sites, plus a lovely visitor center with nature displays for adults & kids & a surprise (to us) terrific 15 minute boat/ferry ride over to Bear Island. Round trip cost is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors... More

We found love a little later in life than most so for our fifth anniversary we decided to go to the beach. This place is gorgeous! Had to wait for tropical storm Hermine to pass but once it was gone, the weather was amazing and the sun came out. Went boogie boarding and laid out in the sun. What a... More

The only way to reach this coastal North Carolina State park is by boat. There's a ferry that transports folks back and forth for a small fee and it's better than having to pay for parking at nearby and more crowded beaches. The island has a great beach and there are shelters available as well as a concession operation during... More

I found this beach to be quiet and simply beautiful. It's alot less busier and cleaner than other beaches in the area. Would recommend this to someone seeking a quiet and relaxing day in the sun.

I wish I had known about this place earlier! For $5 a person you get a ferry ride to a pretty secluded island where it's not hard to find a place for your towel. My husband and I really enjoyed that we didn't have to fight for a place to put our towels. There were also tons of tidal pools... More

Like the title says, we arrived @11am on Tuesday first week in August walked 100 yards down the beach and closest person was 100 yards away. My wife walked down toward the end of the island and said she never saw another person. My 2 boys fished and caught several fish. The walk to the beach is not nearly as... More
