Salvo beach day use area is a great alternative to the ocean side beaches. The water is calm and good for younger kids. Lots of water sports like wind surfing, kite surfing ect. There are bathrooms but not much else for amenities. Come prepared

Saw an awesome sunrise from the Salvo beach, just a few mins walk from our motel. Best place to have a peaceful beach time.

Salvo is a gorgeous strip of sand below Rodanthe as you travel down scenic Hwy 12, towards Hatteras. The beach is pristine, and not very well known, but for four wheel drive enthusiasts its a dream come true. Sometimes you are the only one there....More

Visited and camped at the KOA in the Outer Banks, not only was the KOA accomodations outstanding and clean but the Beaches are beautiful, clean and not so crowded. If you like beaches and you like less crowds... definitely must visit the Outer Banks.
