Very large and active National Cemetery

The cemetery is surprisingly large. It is well-maintained and has a kiosk to help you locate veterans buried there.

As a Vietnam veteran I am fortunate that my daughter instills respect and patriotism in my grand children. The Salisbury National Cemetery is as finely kept as Arlington or my South Florida National Cemetery. I highly recommend that everyone visit their closest National Cemetery and pay respects to our departed brothers.

The only other national cemetery I've been to is Arlington which is overwhelming in its size. This is a small site where you can walk among the graves and feel like you can connect with the fallen. It began as a burying ground for Union soldiers who died in a nearby Civil War prisoner of war camp. It has expanded... More

A final farewell to an old Marine buddy. This was the first time attending the Salisbury National Cemetery and was very humbled and surprised. Easy access to the final resting place and the area was breath taking. If I didn't know any better, I would of thought I was at the National Cemetery in Washington, DC. It was that good.... More

Very moving to visit the site where many Union prisoners of war are buried. The Pennsylvania and Maine state monuments as well as the National monument to these men are a fitting tribute to their sacrifice. Well worth a visit.

This is a beautiful well kept cemetery that was originally used by the Confederacy to bury the Union prisoners of war that died in the Salisbury prison. As you walk around you will find reading material that any Civil War buff will find interesting. There is also an audio tour available.

We went there to visit my wife's mother's grave site. She was buried there a little over a week ago. When we drove up I got chills thinking how similar it looked to Arlington National Cemetery. I like the orderliness of the gravestones. All in exact rows and columns. Just like they were marching together into eternity. We noticed a... More

I visit the Veterans Administration Hospital here in Salisbury in a regular basis for medical services and diagnosis. Sometimes the appointments during the day will have a free hour or two between them so I take that time to visit this Cemetery where perhaps one day I will be laid to rest myself although no final decision has been made....
