My Husband and I took our train obsessed 18mth old for a ride on the steam train. We took the first train to Swanbank from the make shift Racecourse station (which was very easy to find due to the signage on the day) it was lovely and the carriage porters were very knowledgeable about the steam train and the history... We did the Steam Train Sunday trip out of Roma Street Station. You get a one hour loop to soak up the charm of an early 1900s steam train and carriages. The atmosphere was exciting and charming. The volunteers were great. We got a seat in the last carriage but were free to wander around the train during the trip.... More

We booked to go out at 11am from Ipswich Racecourse and return at 2pm from Raceourse. The train itself is amazingly well looked after and they even have the old carriages to travel in. The staff are very friendly and the driver even let our three year old nephew in the drivers area to check out the coal and fire.... More

This attraction has it all. Where else can you take ride in a train of 100-year old, lovingly restored timber coaches, pulled by a vintage steam loco? On arrival at Swanbank a bus awaits to take you to see some of the local historical sites, and close to the station is a very well appointed picnic and barbecue area, with... More

We did the Swanbank to Bundamba run and back and it was most enjoyable. Smell the coal and steam and wave to everyone from the open windows. Now that IS fun!! Plenty of parking and Toilets at the old Station, which is a very short drive from downtown Ipswich. Thank you volunteers for making this experience available to all of... More

We travelled on this train on the 19th. Dec 2015. The ticket sellers were dressed as "Santa's Elves" the senior fare was only $6 for seniors. The 10am. train was well patronized and santa gave all travelers a lolly, The round trip from Bandamba race course took about 35 min. return. A very enjoyable trip for everyone. There was a... More

A great little railway. The staff are friendly, approachable and knowledgeable. I recommend this anyone with an interest in steam trains and history and you get great value for the ridiculously cheap ticket price. It was at least 36 degrees C/98 Degrees F and the carriage was pleasant enough ride in the heat. No staff minded we have a drink... More

I recently booked a steam train driver experience as a surprise birthday gift for my husband. While expensive it was absolutely worth it! Leaving from from Box Flat and travelling to Swanbank near Ipswich, the trip was professionally handled from the booking itself to the the day's experience. Not only did my husband thoroughly enjoy his day but the team... More

My family and I went to The Handmade Expo market, which is on the third Saturday of the month and discovered the Pioneer Steam Trains runs every market day. It was great for the children to experience this form of travel from the past. It was most enjoyable and would recommend to market goers or anyone really.
