Nice open location, beautiful walk with kids, but the gory museum was too much

I can laugh about it now, but chopped heads and impaled dismembered bodies as part of the Western Xia Museum was not what I expected when we decided to visit this top location... read more

The Western Xia Tombs are famous. Now they are on the Yinchuan Starbucks mugs, but if you do not speak and read Chinese visiting them isn't going to be that interesting unless you enjoy looking at large dirt mounds. The museum is nice, but it is all in Chinese. So you will need a translator or language ability if you... More

I can laugh about it now, but chopped heads and impaled dismembered bodies as part of the Western Xia Museum was not what I expected when we decided to visit this top location near Yinchuan. Avoid the bloody reenactment of the historic battles if you are visiting with little kids! Although mine quite enjoyed the red floors and walls, I... More

The tomb is by 50 min far from Yinchuan downtown by bus. There is a museum telling story about the local kingdom of Yinchuan and Ningxia 'Xixia dynasty' there, also the structure outside and inside the tomb. However, we could not walk inside the tomb, just walk around the outside.

it is a little outside the town on yinchuan and can be reached either by a taxi or a bus. the place has a museum and tombs. The museum was really good the tombs on the otherhand I didnt find to be that extraordinary. I cannot say if they were not that good or was it the weather that day.... More

The Chinese are masters of making the minute look ostentatious. The entrance, driveways and build up, to what essentially looks like giant ant hills, definitely left you in awe and built up your anticipation. The English sign post translations do not amount to much in their meaning. This results in words clustered together, which individually make sense but together make... More

This is actually a pretty well set up attraction for China. You can walk yourself around, which might be nice in summer, but we went in winter and hopped between areas on the electric cart. Still spent two hours here. It's best to examine the museum first, since it gives you a bit of history about the Western Xia emperors... More

I was amazed by the scale of the area and the history of Xia civilization. The place is well preserved and it even has Visitor Aid for visitor to get clarification.

This place is the best attraction in Yinchuan to see. Make sure you make your way over the the far end with the mini buses as those are even more impressive then the once in the entrance area.

Amazing location, great place to see on a spare afternoon in Yinchuan, the museum doesn't have too much in English but the tomb signs are all translated well

It is an interesting array of artifacts from a past era. The museum is filled with items excavated from the tombs outside. After the museum there is a little walk through a quiet path with stones engraved with a variety of Chinese character styles. Then a little further to a large open area of tombs. After a quick look we... More
