Huangshi Zhai is located in the southwest of the world natural...

Huangshi Zhai is located in the southwest of the world natural heritage—Wulingyuan Quartz Peak-forest. Quartz sandstone distribution zone that is suitable to constitute large peak-forest starts from the northwest of Huangshi Zhai, and stretches to the northeast direction until the edge of West Sea, Maple Valley, and forms the world’s only magic large peak-forest with 20 kilometers length and 10 kilometers width. Huangshi Zhai is the largest among 3000 large peak-forests consisting of quartz sandstone. Huangshi Zhai is wide and thick with an altitude of 1,092 meters. It is high for looking the distance and wide and flat for rest. When you climb on this largest natural viewing deck and take a broad view, there are countless stone peaks and pillars, tall and straight, trying to make a figure, intensive and widely distributed. All these peaks and pillars form vast peak-forests, making people joyful suddenly and happy. If there is thick cloud covering all the peaks, flickering lofty and steep, or ethereal and fleeting, changing constantly. At this time, stone peaks and pillars seem to be firm rocks in turbulent and roaring waves on the sea, more poetical, and have the good reputation of “it is no avail of your trip to Zhangjiajie, unless you come to the summit of Huangshi Village”. Huangshi Zhai has tens of scenic spots including star gathering stage, double doors for the guest, five fingers peak, front garden and remaining piers of the heavenly bridge etc, among which, the latter two are the most famous.

As everybody heads towards other areas of the National Park because of the Avatar movie the village has been a quite calm and peaceful spot to observe the Mountains. I recommend it for those who wants to enjoy the view peacefully.

We spent approximately 2 - 2.5 leisurely walking here from the forest park entrance as we ride the cable car up but took the scenic route down. There are some very good sites for photos and one main eating area, plus a few small stalls on the way. Watch out for the mischievous monkeys who will snatch things from your... More

The track to get to Huanshi Zhai is incredibly nice as you hike sorrounded by dozens of funny macaques. The village itself is probably the best attraction in the park. There's a loop that surrounds the mountain with tons of incredibly nice scenic spots. The tour I suggest is to first climb up to Huangshi Zhai and then to descend... More

There are 2 options to the top: - At the Zhangjiajie entrance, take free bus then take cableway to the top - Walk up, via one end of the Golden Whip Stream (金鞭溪). I actually came by the Golden Whip Stream. However, I decided to take the cableway up to save time & energy. From the end of Golden Whip... More

We went there on the last day of our stay, and we were not disappointed. No crowds of people, the view is stunning, and you can get a student discount on cable car. I'd recommend this if you want a great view, very few people and no annoying pushing away from the spot

Our tour guide told us that if you don’t visit Huangshizhai, you can’t claim you have come to Zhangjiajie. Hiking on Huangshizhai is a great challenge but flexible. It is totally worth it.

Went via the Golden whip stream route since I wanted to trek going to the village. The beginning of the trek was nice, the walkways were marked and so it was easy to find your way even without a map. The Chinese tourists on buses will only be going to the park at the base of the village, so just... More

Huangshi is a village 1080 m above the sea level. There is a cable car to reach this village and there are many beautiful scenic spots to see from those terraces. The Golden Whip Brook is interesting to explore. It's a paradise for plants because the pathway are adorned by an abundance of flowers, trees and grasses.
