We stopped here on our long drive across the country from Clifden to Slane. It was a nice place to get out and stretch our legs. Plenty of parking, toilets, and a small cafe. For us, the entry fee was a bit steep for the hour we spend wandering the gardens, but if we had had more time it would definitely been worth it. The grounds are very extensive and we only saw about half of them. We also wished we could have seen inside the castle, but tours were over for the day. The castle is very impressive from the outside, so I imagine there's a lot to see inside.

This hidden gem in Co. Westmeath is a must see if you're in the area. We had a wonderful tour of the castle with our guide, Octavia. She was very knowledgeable and offered us a great insight into the Pakenham family, but also how Irish society has changed over the years. Loved the contrast between upstairs and downstairs. If we'd had more time (and if the weather had been dry) we would have loved to have toured the gardens. But that gives us a good excuse to call back!

We visited Tullynally Castle to see the gardens recently. The entrance fee is 8e and is very worth it. With that you get a great map of the gardens. I think you can also request a tree guide, although we didn't.

The trail is well sign-posted, with lots of points of interest. The gardens are so beautifully maintained, but not in an overly manicured way.

It was a lovely relaxing walk, and we enjoyed watching the Swans and signets on the lake and also meeting the Llamas.

The cafe in the courtyard of the castle had lovely fresh Quiche and salad, fresh baked goods, soup, etc. and lovely coffee.

Definitely worth trip if you are in the area!

Went with brother, his kids and mine, a nice family day out to stroll around the gardens and the lake.
Dose not cost a whole lot to enter and start via the small gate, begin the walk through some lovely gardens. Then through the woods and around the lake, where there are a few swans.
Kids were given an informative leaflet of the places they can find along the walk, and they enjoyed spotting these hidden gems. Once the young ones were happy then you know its a decent day out, ha.
The walk was very relaxing, path well laid out, and long enough to work off some calories. Was tired after it, which was good!
Better than I had expected, and will be back again in future.

Tullynally is one of the great houses of Ireland. At this time of year, the gardens are quite simply spectacular. Do not think of visiting the area without seeing Tullynally, there is something magical about this place and the Pakenham family deserve enormous credit. The best of Ireland.

Highly recommended. We visited Strokestown gardens a few days earlier and were very disappointed, but the gardens in Tullynally are beautifully laid out and maintained. It was drizzling during our trip but that did not take away from our enjoyment. Café is also good during these outdoor eating times.

A wonderful place to visit. We were lucky enough to have a tour of the castle during Heritage Week - a great tour as there is so much history in this place. The gardens are stunning and full of unusual plants, collected by Tomas Pakenham, author of many books. My group thoroughly enjoyed their visit here - highly recommended.

My 9 year old boy climbed over a fence in front of the house today, as most 9 year old boys do. The owner or a staff member (English woman) came out of the house and shouted get out of there , to which my son immediate did. No that was not enough for her, she continued to shout and give out to him. We are on our holidays camping in a nearby town and my son cried for hours today and just wants to go home. It was totally uncalled for and very unprofessional especially in a family orientated facility. I just told my son to walk away from her as I didn't want to make matters worse. I would never recommend anyone with kids to visit this place.

This fabulous garden is a true gem just over an hour from Dublin. As a local I have the privilege of buying an annual season ticket for €50. Visiting regularly enhances the experience because you get to see the ever changing beauty of this very special place. Great spot to come alone whatever the weather and reflect. Plenty of spots to sit and ponder in beautiful natural surroundings.

Delighted to have stumbled upon this hidden gem. Tullynally Castle and Gardens is the perfect day out for all ages, with so much to see and explore, you could easily spend a few hours there! The grounds are so beautifully kept and with 12 acres to walk around at your own pace, it really is such a lovely day out. We loved down by the swan pool, it was so relaxing and there is a lovely view of the castle in the distance! The staff we met along the way were all so friendly and knowledgeable. Great place to bejng the dogs too!
