The bugs here are thick in the summer, so try to wear longer sleeves. There is no parking near the entrance, so you must wear comfortable walking shoes.
It is very worth the time, though. The preserve has such beautiful scenery and experiences. It is...More
Closest parking is at the Assembly of God Church, donation box available! Really no other parking within reasonable distance. Didnt see any sea glass, but some hermit crabs and lots of vegetation. Nice hike for kids, some small hills and roots, be careful!
Haven't been to Springer's Point in several years due to a very large snake sighting right by the Sam Jones gravesite.
This trip I was determined to make it through the trail to the beach for sunset. Well worth my anxiety about critters. The only...More
This is where Blackbeard was beheaded, in Teach’s Hole channel, on November 22, 1718. He fought Lt. Robert Maynard of the Royal Navy and one of his crewman did the deed. There's also sea glass here for collectors, along with a pristine wildlife area and...More
A beautiful and natural place. We went to see Sam Jones gravesite and were surprised not to see any information regarding his life or related history. The gravesite was also in a sorry state and could use some maintenance...

We stopped here after a suggestion by our lunch time waitress who told our granddaughters about Blackbeard & his hidden treasure. We didn't find the treasure but we did see fish & a lot of hermit crabs! It was a nice little walk down the...More

We parked at the Assembly of God Church, just around the corner, thanks to my son who let us know about this possibility on a weekday. My older kids biked there. Of course, a donation will be sent to the church because they were so gracious in not complaining or reporting us. Just before coming to Ocracoke, I blew my knee out in a hiking mishap. I was grateful for the close proximity. But send a donation if you use their parking on a weekday!
