The Town finally has insurance and grant money to rebuild, but is stuck in contracting and permitting delays.

A great place to go to fish or look at the ocean until it was declared unusable due to storm damage from Hurricane Matthew. It is owned by Oak Island and the rumor is that it will be repaired/replaced this fall/winter (2017).

Oak Island Pier is closed at this time. Last year's hurricane took its toll on the pier. It is not safe. There are plans to repair it that are beginning.

Really it's just a pier. Walking to it was more fun for the family than the actual pier. If prefer going to Southport in the morning to sit on the pier there. If you don't make it to the Oak Island Pier don't beat yourself...More
