Colonial Governors ruled, legislators debated, patriots gathered and George...

Colonial Governors ruled, legislators debated, patriots gathered and George Washington danced. At Tryon Palace, where British rule once flourished, American independence took root and the state of North Carolina was born. Here you can still experience the adventure of North Carolina’s earliest beginnings and a living history like no other. Guided tours, live re-enactments and conversations with costumed interpreters from centuries past bring history to life in vivid detail at the Governor’s Palace, Gardens and Historic Homes. And, at the new high-tech North Carolina History Center, interactive games and hands-on exhibits delight visitors young and old. Whether you’re exploring one of our riverside gardens or sharpening your skills as a quilter, printer, ship’s captain or blacksmith, there are endless opportunities for making cherished family memories at Tryon Palace.

The original Tryon Palace burned down but it was reconstructed to near exact specifications. Good tours and lots to see. They will wear you out going up the stairs to the top level. Be sure to see the blacksmith shop near the entrance! Tours of other homes and a museum with a good video also available.

Took the house tour with family. Learned a little bit of early NC history - interesting. Also toured the kitchen and sewing building. Saw how to make ribbon bands and saw how the mechanized rotisserie worked - both interesting. Worth a visit

We we're pleasantly surprised by the palace. The kitchen can be visited without taking the tour if you have time constraints. History buffs would enjoy the tour.

The history and tours of the palace and homes were very educational. It was worth the cost to visit the homes and see more than just the outside.

Even though we went on a Sunday, and were a little pressed for time, the staff were very helpful and got us set up quickly to make the best of our time. The Governor's Palace, stable and kitchen were beautiful. Our guide was great, stayed in character, and was even comical; loved this tour. The guide for the George Dixon... More

Instead of the old dry history I remember as a kid, actually wandering through a property that, though rebuilt, still resonates with the vitality and environment of times past became much more real to me. The personalities who lived and reigned there became living three dimensional people, for whom I could say friend or neighbor, and as such, could see... More

We visited Tryon Place on Nov. 7th. The interpreter / guide Lisa was dressed in the style of the original time period and was VERY knowledgeable and friendly with a good sense of humor in her presentation of each room in the Palace.

This place was great. It takes a good part of the day to tour the palace and then two historical houses were also open for tours. The Palace was restored as it burned down and the gardens were also restored as well as the kitchen. We went to the history center, parked the car for free and purchased tickets there.... More

The tour lasted 30 minutes and very informative! Enjoyed hearing about all the history of Tyron Palace! We also toured the John Stanly house which is a separate tour.

The detail is exceptional. You will go back in time without even realizing it. The docents are very knowledgeable. Have been a few times over many years and will go back again. The gardens are spectacular in the spring.
