I have been to Water rock knob several times-the fall is one of my favorite times to go-the view is spectacular. Plan on taking a picnic lunch and enjoy the setting! There are picnic tables, or if you like you could just lay out a blanket and lay back and relax! Hiking up to the top may prove challenging for... More

Views all around with well designed info indicating distant peaks by mileage away. Walk is mostly paved incline with some stairs to observation area and then steeper rocky hike as you climb to summit.

We took the family up and the drive up the parkway was breathtaking in its own. The view from the parking lot is worth the drive, but I hiked to the top with my kids after arriving. My seven year old son handled it fine, but he plays lots of sports. I on the other hand struggled a little. The... More

Visited on a Tuesday and very few cars were there. Just a note that restroom facilities are closed and locked in December. The uphill hike to the very top was a fun challenge and yes there were bear tracks and other evidence of their existence beyond the paved path. However once at the very top it was well worth it.... We tried hiking up the trail, but it is very steep, we are older, and out of shape, so we didn't make it all the way before turning around. I also recently had knee surgery so needed to take it a little easy on the knee. Nice rest area on the Parkway, with a visitor center, bathrooms (outhouses) and excellent... More

This hike, in our opinion, is the best hike on the Blue Ridge parkway. But it's not for the faint of heart. After the easy first part of the trail you reach a court like viewing area, most people end it right there. After that the trail gets much harder. NOT the best choice for small kids! as there's NO... I went to the pinnacle of the mountain which is a healthy hike - some very steep. Well worth it!!! There is a part of the path that ends with an overlook. To get to the top you have to keep climbing. Recommend you have a stick of some sort to help navigate back down this part.
