This was a great Saturday morning adventure and was less than a 30 minute drive from Charlotte (University City area). I wore very comfortable shoes in preparation for the many trails and walking in the mine. The grounds are kept very well and the staff...More

Great historic area and fun for all ages. Nice small Museum full of history. 1st Gold rush before California gold rush. Mines are cold damp and inviting. They do historic reenactments and no cost for parking or Museum. Staff very friendly and knowledgeable.

Quiet, back roads of Midland, North Carolina. Nice museum (handicap accessible) with mining artifacts. Easy access for a self-guided mine tour (not recommended for walking handicapped) and sluicing participation for kids. Bring a camera.

Located in rural Cabarrus County is the famous Reed Gold Mine, a rugged reminder of days long past, when there truly was gold in “them thar hills” and North Carolina was called “The Gold State” for good reason. Visitors to this state historic site can...More

We came for our first time/visit for the ‘black gold’ talk for black history month. Sara, our historian guide, was outstanding! After the talk/discussion we went on a mine tour. Her passion and knowledge were clearly evident.

We've gone several times. Anytime we have guest visiting we like to take them to Reed Gold mine. Great place for kids to explore and learn about gold mining. It's well worth your time to watch the video before you tour the min and grounds.

Visited on a whim and delighted we did. First explored the history museum, learning of the beginnings and end of the mine. Then took self guided tour of the mine itself. Easy to walk and navigate. Enjoyable * no cost historic site * (although you...More

Between us we had six homeschool kids ages 6-11. What a wonderful educational opportunity! A museum...which was small but informative. Wish the movie had been working. The mine tour and hiking path were fantastic, we went on a weekend and basically had the place to...More

This was worthwhile because it is so high on the unique historical scale. US & NC gold prospecting, economic, & minting factors make this a valuable regional treasure. The mine was very much worth the drive. Plus it's free! Flip side: Lots of the place...More

We took a guided tour and the gentleman was so informative and friendly. We learned a lot about this gold mine and enjoying our time touring the mine and the artifacts.
