One of our favorite hikes in the region, the Hawksbill Trail has some of the best views of the Linville Gorge Wilderness Area. The hike is 2.4 miles roundtrip, and spends quite a bit of time climbing in elevation (700 feet in 1.2 miles). We're moderately in shape and this trail gets us panting a bit. The parking lot by... First time to Hawksbill, and yes it was worth the effort. The mountain trail was fairly easy to get to, from Asheville. Count on a solid hour plus for the drive. Most trails obviously don't have restrooms, so do use it at one of the few gas stations before you get tot the trail. There are very few designated parking... More

I think it's the altitude. It's not such a tough hike. Fairly short actually. You go straight up the mountain. Down the other side and then a shorter hike up the next mountain. Nice view from the top. We were there during hawk migration and there were about 30 hawks coming by.

Excellent hike, little difficult finding road, parking available at trailhead. Took 1 hr up and once there couldn't leave! Too beautiful! Can see probably 50-75 miles, huge granite top where to can picnic, and rest. Saw one bald eagle that flew by so close from behind me that if I was near the edge, I may have tripped and fallen... After a full day of hiking, my favorite place to end is on Hawksbill Mountain to watch the sunset. It is so breathtaking and is a decently fast hike that when it's dark, it doesn't take too long to get back down. I have cowboy camped on this mountain as well and the view of the stars at night is... More

I came up here with a couple of friends, ready to hike. I seen a picture of somebody standing on a rock and definitely wanted to see that View. This is that you :-) it takes about 5 minutes to get to and is wheelchair accessible. We was ready to hike so we went to the bottom of this view,... More

We stopped here on the way to Asheville and it was a highlight of the trip. The walk up took about 45 mins and was rewarded at the top. The last street h was really steep and a bit slippery with the leaves on the rocks. Once on top all was forgotten. The views were amazing and it was very... More

We have hiked this trail for years, and it never gets easier. From the limited parking area you'll start the hike with moderate effort... But as soon as you see the little sign about midway, Oh it will change. The trail becomes more difficult and strenuous to the summit. Once you arrive at summit, prepare to have your breath taken... For me the trail started out easy to moderate. The farther it went the harder it got. Pretty good inclines a lot of the way but it's short. Took 40 min to the top. Walking across the top was scary to me but gorgeous views. I'd recommend it to anyone.
