Grandfather Mountain’s pristine scenery and sweeping vistas rejuvenate mind and spirit. At an elevation of 5,946 feet, Grandfather is recognized as one of the world’s most diverse nature preserves. Be exhilarated by the altitude and panoramic views from the Mile High Swinging Bridge; stand eye-to-eye with bears, cougars and otters in natural habitats. Dine in the restaurant or find a scenic picnic spot, browse the nature museum, wander the trails, go behind the scenes of the animal habitats, visit with knowledgeable naturalists, and stop for a treat at the fudge shop. Fill your day with family memories at place where wonders never cease.

Thanks for the great review! I'm glad to hear you had a fun time, even with the fog. A foggy day on Grandfather Mountain can be pretty magical, making one feel like they're in another world — especially when crossing the bridge! Thanks again, and we look forward to having you back on the mountain. Sincerely, Frank Ruggiero Director of... More

While on Christmas vacation outside of Boone, decided to get in some outdoor activities, Heard alot of good things about this place. We did bring our dog--- allowed everywhere except the petting zoo area. Being from Florida -- it was amazing to start at the bottom of the park entry --- where the weather was about 45 degree and lightly... More

Cost fifty dollars for my husband and I to just walk across the mile high bridge! Seems a bit exorbitant prices for what you receive. It is clean and well maintained, would be great for families with younger children or even a picnic with great views.

Thanks for writing, although I'm sorry to hear you felt Grandfather Mountain was overrated. Although the Mile High Swinging Bridge is often considered a highlight of one's visit, admission includes access to a mountain's worth of activities. In addition to the bridge, which offers some of the finest views of the Western North Carolina High Country, the park also has... More

There is something for everyone! The mountain views are breathtaking. The picnic areas are beautiful and well maintained, complete with tables, grills and clean restroom. There's a fudge/ice cream shop, smaller museum and zoo that my daughter really enjoyed! Then, there's the mountain top and suspended bridge for the adventurous one. For the older folks there's a welcoming porch outside... More

I had been as far as the base of the entrance road before (to the Highland Games many years ago), but never actually visited the attraction. So, over the winter holidays, our family drove up to check out the "mile high" bridge and environs. Well, it's quite a trek. Lots of roads that haven't been all that significant since I-26... More

If you need a beautiful, inspiring place to go, where Gods glorious creation takes your breathe away. Then Grandfather Mountain's McRae Trail will be the most rewarding. There are several trials to experience prior to reaching the peak where your spirit will soar like the eagles.

Thanks for the incredible review! Yes, autumn atop Grandfather Mountain is nothing short of glorious, and we're delighted that you were able to experience it. The Grandfather Trail to MacRae Peak is definitely one of our most popular — and for very good reason, as I'm sure you can attest. Thanks again for writing, and we look forward to having... More

It's $20 a person, which is quite expensive, except when you see what you get. If you can go for the day you can do so many things- hike all over the top of the mountain, go across the mile high bridge, see the nature zoo (bears, etc) have fudge and a snack, explore small side hikes, plus you get... They provide you with a guided tour audio CD which I enjoyed however it's a very short tour and you can return the CD for re-use. I was happy to recycle, but you don't get any money back (even a couple bucks would seem right). I guess my main issue is that the animal exhibits are a 'main attraction' but... More
