Grandfather Mountain’s pristine scenery and sweeping vistas rejuvenate mind and spirit. At an elevation of 5,946 feet, Grandfather is recognized as one of the world’s most diverse nature preserves. Be exhilarated by the altitude and panoramic views from the Mile High Swinging Bridge; stand eye-to-eye with bears, cougars and otters in natural habitats. Dine in the restaurant or find a scenic picnic spot, browse the nature museum, wander the trails, go behind the scenes of the animal habitats, visit with knowledgeable naturalists, and stop for a treat at the fudge shop. Fill your day with family memories at place where wonders never cease.

I have been to Grandfather Mountain many times but this was the first time in about 15 years. It was still a great trip and I enjoyed sharing it with my wife. The mile high bridge and views are great. The small zoo area was...More

We were here a few years ago in October and couldn't enjoy the bridge due to ice. This time was the perfect day and we took advantage of it. Although it was really crowded up there, we got to cross the bridge and enjoy the...More

While we enjoyed our visit, $20 per adult is a bit pricey. You get a CD guide to listen to on your way up which was nice. The big draw is the mile-high bridge, which while interesting, was a little underwhelming since it is only...More

The swinging bridge is call, but the views get even better if you take the mile or so hike up from the bridge to McCrae Peak.

The entrance fee is a bit much but it includes so much: beautiful views, cool animals, lots of places to lunch with friends or family. The bridge is terrifying but the views are worth it.

We were very leary of paying the money to walk across a bridge but we did it and it was well worth it. It isn't just a bridge but several other things are there too which are included in the price. They also give a...More

The trail towards Raven Rocks (1748) peak has a number of steep sections where you get cable rails or ladders to hold on. The view from the peak is awesome. I recommend going the high path towards the peak and than round back through the...More

I thought the admission price was a little high before I visited the site. But, I'm sure glad we went. The view from the swinging bridge was awesome, even though we didn't stay very long at the swinging bridge due to the 45 degree temperatures...More

This was a day trip as we own a cabin on the New River...Haven't stayed in the hotels around there. There have been a lot of new hotels built in the last 2 years with ASU bing there.

There is a parking lot close and an elevator on the inside of the gift shop that takes you up close to the bridge
