We were here in September. It was beautiful weather and we enjoyed our walk through the Botanical Gardens. The many different plants, shrubs and trees were well marked. It made for a lovely afternoon

Great staff!

Got to the nature center just in time to see a rat snake eating a mouse. Informative displays of stuffed animals & info on the area. We talked with Hannah D, who gave us some great tips on what to do in the area. Hiked down to Glen Falls, and it was superb. There’s a pretty and thorough garden with ALL kinds of local plants out back, as well as a pretty Lilly pond. Hannah D was the BEST, and we wished we had had enough time to do the mountain trail she had also recommended

Pretty Spot to Enjoy Flora and Fauna
Jul 2019 • Couples
Went on a nice afternoon and began our visit in the Visitors Center. The center features native animals and information about the area. As you walk the paths, markers show the common and scientific name of the plants you are seeing. It was nice to learn the correct names of plants you have encountered in the past. Two of the paths lead to a small, beautiful little pond covered with lily pads. Others led though the woods, crossing bridges over the creeks running through the center. Very relaxing. Very informative.
Give yourself at least a couple of hours for the visit.

Tropical Rainforest garden ! Indoor many animals to see up close!
Jun 2019 • Family
Animals were not all alive but so neat to stay next to a momma bear and her young! Very interesting. Outside is a lot of walking area in the cool shade. Met a serious student doing work study and he was so great to explain things to us. Even let us see his food for one of the plants. A carniverous !

Nice place for a shady walk
Jun 2019 • Couples
My wife and I spent 2 hours at the Nature Center today. That gave us enough time to walk most of their lovely paths that are shaded for the most part. We would especially recommend the path that takes you to the Rhododendron Trail. Make sure you pick up a trail map at the entrance, as the trails can be a bit confusing in spots. But things are generally well signed. Once they finish the new boardwalks being built near the lake, this will be a 5-star attraction in Highlands for sure. All the volunteers we met were very friendly. Please note that the trails are not paved and good walking shoes are recommended. We only spent a few minutes in their small, indoor Nature Center, but it looked very nice as well. It is free to visit, but donations are gladly accepted.

Follow the seasons in this Garden!
Apr 2019 • Family
This is my favorite attraction in the mountains. It is free and open to all. The plants are all labeled and if you are lucky you may run into one of the staff or interns in the garden who are usually happy to share their knowledge in answer to your questions.
Whether it is the bog gardens viewed from newly constructed boardwalks or the water lilies seen from the trail which circles the lake, or the fern or azalea and rhododendron gardens, you will follow the seasons throughout the year. Follow this it’s a visit to the Nathre Center where you can see bees living in an active hive, touch various natural artifacts, or interact with a natural history expert as you view a live snake through glass.
