Bring $2 for the self-pay to access to the park. Plan on a two mile fairly strenuous trek up the mountain. Once you reach the summit, the earth opens up below. Spectacular vistas. Be sure to go south along the summit to see more.

This was about a 2 mile trail (circular). We started the trail heading left and found the uphill climb easy as the path was wide. Going down was much tougher as the back part of the mountain is narrow, steeper and had lots more large rocks to navigate around. I would highly recommend using hiking poles. It took us about... Pretty much everything has been said - parking area busy, toilet building door locks broken, well maintained trail - be careful of leaves on the wooden steps, they're extra slippery. The views from the various stopping points were outstanding today!

If you have a hankerin for a few hours of beautiful scenery and a good pair of walking shoes, don't miss Whiteside Mountain. Parking was pretty full on the day we went, but we managed to squeeze into a spot. There is a very reasonable $2 parking fee (on the honor system so don't be a jerk). The one negative... More

Just amazing views. A 2.2 mile hike will reward you with its secrets. I suggest you take a right and take the hard way up and the easy way down. Parking can be an issue so we parked on the road. Peak season it was. It is not long after you get near the top that a view is your... More

If you haven't done this hike...sorry. It's a must do at least once a year!! Park in the lot, leave a donation (please) and head up the trail. We highly recommend that you take the Right Fork going up. It's the steps and maybe a bit steeper, but...it's much easier going up than coming down. The down route make a... More

This is a hard walk for someone not in good shape. Definitely take the left side going up. We went down the left side, it was pretty tough.

What a great hike, especially during leaf season in NC. Short but steep trail takes you on a loop above a wide valley, with sweeping views of the mountains that drop down into South Carolina. Truly striking views. There were lots of hikers, and many elderly hikers, so be not deterred.

A real "must see" if you are in the area. Have been hiking this mountains for many years, but always a great experience. My "go to" hike when I don't want to travel to a remove spot. Easy trailhead access with facilities. Because of these factors, this is a very popular hike, so expect to meet some friendly folks along the... More
