Visited with family and found it fun as well as educational. The kids loved getting dirty digging for Rubies. Clean area with friendly staff.

Family came in from Virginia to visit and we took them mining. We live here so we took them to Mason's. The kids had a blast and was so easy for family to dig dirt and then carry to sluice. It was a beautiful day and everyone stayed cool under the cover. The adults decided to dig and the kids... More

I had a lot of fun sifting through the dirt. Went with a buddy who knew what kinds of rocks to look for. On the outside they dont look like gems at all. I was excited when on my last bucket full I found a 4 carat ruby sapphire. I would go again, and it is the best mine in... More

After looking for a mine to visit, we were fortunate to discover that Mason's was still open until the end of Thanksgiving weekend. Our family all opted for native mining and 3 out of 4 of us walked away with sapphires. It was a bit chilly (temps in the 50's), but fun nonetheless. As others have mentioned, you will get... More

So much fun to dig your own dirt and sift through it to find gems. This is native dirt...a short walk from the sluice...grab a shovel and dig it yourself. They do have "gem enriched" buckets already filled if you don't want to dig. The sluices are covered to protect from the sun. We had a sunny but cooler day-... More

The staff here go ABOVE AND BEYOND. They are excelant to help you not only find gems but identify them. They even separated the into individual bags and labeled them for us to remember. I have been to several mines and this is hands on the best I have ever visited. The price is much better than any I have... More

We've visited Mason's twice now, and I think we'll make it a semi-annual tradition. We've had great luck with the native mining, coming away with more than a few small stones each time. We're also big fans of the UV Light mining. My son got a bell ringer during our first visit and 6 carat the second that was of... More

What a haul we made! We chose the $100 'salted' bucket because we were not just after sapphires which are harder to come by. The value in retail $ was well over 2.5 times worth what we paid for the gems we came home with. ( i have bought crystals retail at shows and in stores for years.) GPS took... More

Mason's sapphire and ruby mine is UNIQUE in that they do NOT salt the mines meaning all the gems you find are directly from that location and not sprinkled with gems from somewhere else. You also get to go out to the mountain over a picturesque babbling stream where you get to carefully select your location and DIG YOUR OWN... More
