My family comes here almost every year to enjoy a week at the beach. The 4x4 is great because there aren't as many people and you get to see the wild horses. The views are amazing and everything is practically untouched.

A curious and diverse community in the middle of sand dunes and Maritime forests accessible only by 4 wheel drive. Do follow the rules of 4x4 driving and don’t drive through any puddles no matter how shallow they may appear. We saw one horse on...More

House rental for one week in Corova with teens and 2 dogs. Pros- beautiful beach. Cons- lots of driving on the beach. For us, we found the driving on the beach limited our enjoyment. It is difficult to lay out and relax or even walk...More

We went through Carova on the Wild Horse tour. The only way to get to this area is by a four-wheel drive vehicle. Very secluded area!

This area of the Outer Banks is a beautiful area to explore but a four wheel drive vehicle is required. We generally go riding on the beach to the Virginia line and roam back where the homes are built. The roads can be deep soft...More

I traveled to Carova Beach 30 years ago before the nice beach homes had electricity. During storms and bad weather residents had to drive behind the large sand dunes rather than normally along the beach(no paved or dedicated road) to reach the first paved road...More

Our guide from Wild Horses Tour, Rodney, was great and took us all over to see the Spanish mustangs.

Decided not to spend $50 a person to drive by some wild horses and since we didn't have a 4x4 vehicle, the wife and I hiked up the beach to see them ourselves! We made a day of it, hiking 7.5 miles up the beach...More

We had no trouble finding the horses among the houses behind the dunes. As another response says be careful of the water holes as some are quite deep and will swamp your vehicle. A 4wheel drive is a must. If you are... More

You might pose this question to Corolla Outback Adventures. They would know. Look up the phone number and give them a call.
