The Ackland Art Museum’s permanent collection consists of more than 17,000 works of art, featuring North Carolina’s premier collections of Asian art and works of art on paper (drawings, prints, and photographs), as well as significant collections of European masterworks, 20th-century and contemporary art, African art, and North Carolina pottery. The Ackland organizes several special exhibitions each year. Admission is always free to all.

Very well laid out exhibits, with the right amount of information to go with each section... guards are nearby but not hovering. Nice small gift shop. Fabuous collections af art!

The collection, which changes frequently,has gems in a variety of areas. Their Asian collection is second to none in the South. Theie current display of huge woven pots (of tree saplings, etc.) is magical.

We saw 2 really good shows one Religion and Ritual and the other the Rise of Women. I would like to go again before the on Religion is over we did not see all of it.

Some exhibits are of more interest than others. I found about half of them to quite good but very limited. The written guides were very helpful. The admission is free!
