Excellent network of trails for walking and hiking. The Sugarloaf dune is the highest point - 55 feet above sea level. We found venus flytraps and ripe blueberries during our June hike

Lovely area with several activities, kayaking, paddle boarding, hiking, etc. Started on one of the short hiking trails and didn't get very far due to the attack of mosquitoes. We had to turn around and leave the trail. Sitting beside of the Cape Fear River...More

Love the nature trails. The fishing is good too. Park rangers are friendly. We enjoyed our weekend. Hope to camp again in the fall.

A nice place to visit while in Carolina Beach. We were sorry that it rained through much of our visit but, we made the most of it. Hope to come back again for a longer visit.

I love this diverse park. You go from beach to swamp to dense forest in a short hike !! I highly recommend this park to all nature lovers and anyone who would benefit from some exercise and fresh air !!

It has a lot to offer. If its low tide, the paths have great beaches on the Cape River to have a picnic. For bird watchers, its overwhelming. The marina has a feeding station for painted buntings (look them up). And they are supposed to...More

I was wondering how bad the bugs are the first week in April. I will be tent camping and was concerned about being close to Cape Fear and mosquitoes, etc. Also, do any of the nearby beaches allow dogs? Thanks

The towns make decisions about whether dogs are allowed on the beaches. Some do, but only during the "off season". Check the town websites. CB State Park does allow dogs, but with restrictions, so I would check with them as... More

It borders a river channel behind the park. Which is a nice walk. With a lot of sandy areas to hang out on. But it's about a 10 min car ride to the ocean beach.
