I enjoy visiting lighthouses and was happy to have the opportunity to visit the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, despite it being closed for climbing and it being winter. Despite it being January, it was quite a mild and pleasant day. There weren't a lot of visitors, so I had plenty of space to walk around and have a good look and take some pictures. One of the keeper's quarters is set up as a mini-museum attended by a few park rangers who give visitors a short intro and are happy to answer questions. In 1999, the lighthouse was moved due to dangers posed by erosion, but the original site (about a half mile away) is marked with a small post on the beach, which is beautiful in and of itself. Went in 2019 and had a good experience. Staff was friendly and helpful, the views were amazing and the gift shop had some really nice stuff. Just make sure you bring your walking shoes because its a long way up.

It is a really nice light house but the ground is not surrounded by beaches rather forest. It would have been nice if you could climb to the top (closed for Covid). At night the light actually still shines and can be seen from the sea and towns.

This is the most iconic lighthouse in North Carolina, and perhaps the country. Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is beautiful. It is easily accessible from the main road, and you can get some great photos of the lighthouse from different angles around the lighthouse. There is a nice gift shop located on the ground, and the staff is very friendly.…
