My family loves going on the Art Loeb and especially, the Black Balsam section. The view can't be beaten and this section isn't overly taxing for folks that may not get to hike often.

This is a 33 mile hike from the bottom land near Davidson Creek campground in the Pisgah National Forest near Brevard all the way up over the Blue Ridge Parkway and into the Shining Rock Wilderness. It is a beautiful trail, but with rocks and roots and considerable elevation gain. You can hike sections of it and get a feel... More

Four of us hiked part of the Art Loeb Trail in July 2016. Access for us was off the Blue Ridge Parkway - warning - the bathroom where we parked smelled horrible. The hike is moderate to strenuous - moderate for most hikers. Sun exposure can be an issue since it is a ridge trail. But the views - Wow!

This was a brutal hike - about ten miles of mountainous climbing. After the first climb to the ridge - the branch going towards Black Balsam to the right and to the left going to Cold mountain we were worn out. Then it is up and down all the way to Black Balsam. Difficult hiking, but beautiful scenery. The threat... More

The Art Loeb Trail is special and deserves a visit any time of year. This 31+ mile path winds through the Shining Rock Wilderness, some of the finest hiking in the southeast if not the United States. The Art Loeb trails has four sections. Section one begins at the Davidson River Camp Ground in the Pisgah National forest. Section two... More

Our friends who live out in Maggie Valley took us to this trail while we were in vacation with them over Memorial Day. We hiked the section from the Blue Ridge Parkway to the beginning of the Shining Rock Wilderness. What a magnificent hike it was. The views were spectacular all day and the trail was in fine condition. Given... More

If you have a deep appreciation for hiking among the natural lands of God's creation then this is one of many trails associated within the Pisga National Forest, Brevard, NC. Make sure you pack your backpack with a picnic snack or two and plenty of water. Depending on how much of the trail you do, it can be an all... More

This is a wonderful trail that starts in Brevard but the best part is over Pilot Mountain and over Black Balsam Knob, Shining Rock, etc. Just a beautiful area.
