Enjoyed Moses Cone - hiked the long trail this time to the fire tower - enjoyed the hike with good views. Easy trail in terms of up and down - not technical. Easy off the Parkway.

We were staying in Asheville and thought it would be a quick drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway to visit the Moses Cone House….that was our first mistake. It was a rare, warm day in early November and all the tourists were out. The drive...More

Moses Cone was a remarkable and generous man. Building schools, hospitals, churches and allowing strangers to have picnics on the grounds and enjoy the scenery. We should all be so caring. Visit and enjoy the beauty and awesome manor.

The beautiful big house is in desperate need of TLC - no doubt a serious lack of funding. The craft store was doing a lively trade but we discovered the video that was playing in what used to be the library. This is a most...More

What a wonderful way to enjoy the outdoors. It's a decent hike to the Lookout Tower, but the views are amazing. The tower is a little shaky in the wind. Take a water and maybe a snack. IT's definitely worth the hike!

Nice place to visit to learn history of the area. Only 4 stars as the gift shop is very pricey and you can only view the ground level. I think you can arrange for a tour of the other parts of the house though.

Travelling the Parkway then this is a must stop and visit. Fantastic views on a clear day. Lots of hiking trails around. The house is full of information plus the Ranger on duty was very helpful with information.

We stopped here while traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway and I am so glad we did. So much to see and do. We hiked a couple of small trails, explored the house and had a great Fall day learning about Moses and his family.

We went for the changing of the leaves and not many had changed colors by the time we got there...That is not anyone's fault but ours! It was still lovely and there are all sorts of trails for the young people to hike on!

Beautiful home and property. The view from the front porch of the house was so pretty. I could easily live there! This is a not to miss stop on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

I wouldn't assume that use of a metal detector would be OK. Probably best to call 1st.

The quickest is the Deer Park trail. If you take the Maze toward the Apple Barn and then turn left onto Watkin Road you can also get there, but it is much further.

I suggest you contact them directly. I know that in our area of North Carolina there are times in the winter when the Blue Ridge Parkway is closed even though local roads may be open and safe. Sorry but I just don't know... More
