My fiancé and I had a wonderful time at grandfather Mountain State Park. The swing bridge is awesome and the animal habitat was very fun. We bought fudge and saw the place where Forrest Gump ran up the hill in the movie. Beautiful scenery. Highly...More

Grandfather Mountain State park is a great day trip for hiking and sightseeing. We stopped for pictures at Split Rock and enjoyed the Visitors Center and the animal exhibits. We hiked from Black Rock parking area to the Mile High Bridge. The views were spectacular.

We went for the Beary scarey events. Unfortunately the top of the mountain was closed due to high winds. There was alot of very helpful staff in and around the museum with candy, crafts and exhibits for the kids.

Views from the top are beyond description. The final trek to the top is up, up, up. The day we visited the wind speed was hitting 75 MPH gusts. The Mile High Bridge sings as the wind runs through it. Haunting and exhilarating at the...More

A beautiful place. There is a charge to get in (cost us $65 or so for a family of 5), but well worth it. Plenty of stops and gift shops, as well as hiking. Be sure to head all the way to the top to...More

We were a little surprised by the $20 per person admission charge, but the view from the top are spectacular. You must cross the mile high bridge.

It does not cost anything to park and hike in the state park. It only costs to go to the tourist area which is still privately owned.
