Snorkelling in a beautiful coral reef.

I visited Rottness island, which is a small island, just a short ferry ride from Fremantle. I have been there on many occasions with my family & friends. I went to parakeet Bay to go snorkelling, which has beautiful coral reef, the most amazing tropical fish in crystal clear water, although when snorkelling be careful on how sharp the coral... More

There are 2 beautiful beaches here: Little Parakeet (smaller but better for snorkelling) and Parakeet Bay, with a long, crescent-shaped beach, which was quieter and not so busy with families.

We caught the free shuttle to Jordie Bay then walked about 10 minutes north to Parakeet Bay. Not much shade unless you can find a cliff overhang but super-duper snorkelling and bay. The fish were enormous and you didn't have to go out far at all.

This is a gorgeous little bay on the north side of Rottnest. We'd been cycling around the east and south of the island so quickly went to Parakeet Bay before we left as someone had recommended it. Not sure if I was just hotter than earlier in the day but the water seemed warmer than at Little Salmon Bay. Beautiful... More

Great place to start off. We caught the bus and got off at stop 5 and kids spent an easy hour until the next bus came. Lovely views and a kid friendly beach. Also has a toilet.

Just a beautiful little bay that you can paddle in and sit on the beach and watch the world go by. Absolutely lovely. Nature at it's best.

Little Parrot beach was probably the best beach we went to on our 3 day trip over the Island - small, intimate, nice sand with cliff backdrop, calm clear water, and good snorkling for these latitudes. You can get there for free by using the bus. Its a 1k walk from the stop, passing Parrot beach, which you should avoid... More

On Rottnest, in the morning I like being in Salmon Bay/Little Salmon Bay. Once the wind starts coming from the south, in the afternoon Parakeet Bay and Little Parakeet Bay come into their own! Parakeet Bay is a longer sweep of sand where I've seen stingrays before. The only downside is that there is often a boat or two banging... More

small, protected, lovely little cove. Can access this by bike or the hop on-off bus. There is no shelter though.

I went to Rottnest in May 2013 - not exactly summer - and the weather was still amazing. I arrived after 3 months in Thailand, so for me the sea at Rottnest was a bit cold, but I cannot fault the island for its beauty. Have a look at the photos, it took about 45 minutes to get there by... More
