The Market was full of energetic consumers and entrepreneurs displaying their fruits, vegetables, grains, fish and even technology. People were busy buying their daily provisions. Large bags of fish were even delivered to the market on the back of motor bikes.

We spent almost two hours cruising the market and the close surrounding and it was very nice and colorful. Nice place to experience the vibe of typical African market. In the afternoon there were less fresh products but it hasn’t affected our feeling. :-)

A local market of spices, fruits and vegetables. Hustling and crowded but that adds to the experience. The fish and meat market are adjacent. If you have. Weak stomach I would avoid it.

This market is not for the faint hearted - especially the meat and fish sections. This is a local market in action - not really designed for tourists. Never the less it was really interesting to walk around and as usual the locals were very...More

An interesting food market to walk around. Very busy and hot but lots on offer, especially spices as souvenirs.

Whatever other markets you’ve seen around the world, this sets a new standard of curiosity. It’s smelly, bustling and utterly captivating. Good place for spice souvenirs.

The market is situated just off the main road and can be accessed by foot from most nearing hotels. There are fruits, vegetables, spices, tea, coffee, and nuts to buy. Visiting the market makes you realize how fertile Zanzibar is. It is worth a visit...More

Interesting to see the fish market and the chickens/hens, spice market is so-so, but overall it was one of the more interesting things to see in Stone Town. Overall Stone Town was surprisingly boring.

The german's built this as the main market during their colonial adventures and pacification campaign here. It has the great feel of a european covered market of the sort you get in the lower Rhine area. Here, it serves as the core of an overflowing...More

no difference between this market and any other open market in Asia, Ukraine, Nairobi......, except the vendors. We were there with two children, all of us suffered the heat.

They may take other funds but I always paid in Tsh. Depending where you are, it is a relatively easy walk, on the outside of Stone Town
