The recently redone visitor center is informative, with a look into the fort itself. Men's bathroom has changing table, although it's chest-high (I prefer between chest and waist height.) Easy parking, helpful map provided. Great views from overlook. Easy NPS passport stamp to obtain. Recommend,...More

The self-guided walking tour from the Visitor Center requires about 40 minutes. You can take some great photos of the bridge and the fortifications and the Manhattan skyline and the big ships leaving New York harbor. The museum in the visitor center has some excellent...More

Visited with a military history buff. We focued on Battery Weed, one of a pair of fortresses on opposite sides of the Narrows guarding New York Harbor. It's an eerie strucure, a castle hollowed out in back and lined with gun emplacements so that any...More

Bring a camera. From the overlook, you can get GREAT pictures of the Narrows, the Verrazano bridge, and the inside of the fort. Fort Wadsworth was first used during the Revolutionary War, and one of the oldest military structures in the US
