Located in the New York's Hudson Valley, Catskill Animal Sanctuary (CAS) is a 110-acre haven for horses and farm animals rescued from cruelty and neglect. In addition to emergency rescue, CAS provides innovative programs that educate the public about the sentience of farm animals, and the devastating impacts of agribusiness and institutionalized cruelty on animals, people, and the planet.

CAS offers weekend and special group tours, vegan cooking classes, speaking engagements, a summer day camp for kids, and a host of compassionate programming year round at its primarily solar-powered Sanctuary. Lodging is available on site at The Homestead, a beautifully-renovated 1813 farmhouse.

Since 2001, CAS has rescued over 3,500 animals, and has worked in tandem with law enforcement to bring animal abusers to justice. Founder/Director Kathy Stevens is the author of the highly-acclaimed books, "Where the Blind Horse Sings" and "Animal Camp."

Do you love animals? Come and see them up close and wonderful. CAS has volunteer days, which is rewarding in itself. And we celebrated our daughter's birthday there with 16 family and friends. We had Tucker time, the cow who thinks he's a puppy. The tour is informative and such a wonderful experience.

We arrived at the Homestead after dark which, even in the rain, was not difficult to find. There was no one else staying there that night so we let ourselves in and were pleasantly surprised by the beauty of this home with its old wood floors and brick. We changed into our pjs and ate some snacks while watching tv,... More

A few friends and I stopped here for a tour on the way to a day trip to Woodstock, and the animal sanctuary is definitely my fondest memory from the trip. The beautiful landscape and interaction with the animals was a magical experience, and I learned a ton of great information from the tour guide that made me question some... More

My boyfriend and I were spending a weekend upstate and were staying in the Homestead B&B on the property. The tour we took was awesome. We got lots of up close and personal interaction with the animals and learned a lot about their rescues, recovery, etc. They give these animals such a wonderful new start. The property is enormous, with... More

We drove the 3+ hours west from Boston, because we'd heard positive things about this farm animal sanctuary. It's all true. Alexis led our 1.5 hour tour around the sanctuary. She's smart, personable, sincere and passionate about her involvement here. She educates you on the realities of how farm animals are treated by the unknowing (for meat, eggs and milk).... More

Wonderful work being done here both in saving animals and informing the public about terrible factory farming practices and how to support a vegan lifestyle. Animals are friendly and the volunteers all lovely and helpful. Good family outing.

It was little Violet, the goat, who was born tiny and rejected by her mother that got to me. She was hand raised by a staff member and is as cute as a button. All of the animals have a story...and a name! There's Bartelby the black goat and Amelia the pig (she's huge) with the softest ears. There are... More

My family enjoyed our visit very much. We stayed right at the Homestead which was lovely. It was great seeing all the animals. We got there a little late an did the last tour of the day it was HOT and it wasn't the greatest tour, mostly because of that. I think our tour guide was spent, we were spent... More
