About
This sculpture park was intended to house the works of the designer, but the setting itself became the artist's masterwork. It is possible to visit by appointment on non-open days.

Views for days! It’s amazing to think one man and this vision and made it a reality. The hours spent to construct such an amazing place is unimaginable!

Pleasant outdoor art
May 2021
This is quite an interesting sculpture park; a little history, a little art, and beautiful surroundings. I spent a pleasant morning walking through the quarry and the woods and resting by some of the pools. Very unique.

Weird but wonderful!

To call this a sculpture garden is to call the Mona Lisa kinda famous. It is unlike any other sculpture garden I have ever seen in the world… The work of one man, Harvey Fite, died before he could complete his 40 year project this is a stunning example of taking something like an abandoned quarry and turning it into amazing art! Must be seen to be believed… Go on a sunny day :-)

un capolavoro

This place is amazing. Un capavoro. It makes you think you are in a place beyond time and space. My little son had a blast, but I specially advise to keep an eye on your young ones as there are many places they can fall.

Hard to describe
Sep 2020
This is a hard place to describe. It has sculptures but it is the shale construction that is fascinating. Walking through the maze of passage ways is an adventure. There are many places to pause and reflect. The map I was given directed me through the construction of this. It was good exercise climbing up and down the stairways. The only disappointment is that all the pools of water were green. The added bonus was an accordion player who serenaded us for 1/2 hour. There were picnic tables and I am sorry I didn't bring my lunch.

A Giant Art Installation
Aug 2020
The life's work of a single artist who created a sculpture of slate covering acres. You walk through a park like setting and observe the sculpture from an infinite number of angles and locations. Quiet & relaxing.

You need reservations (online) due to pandemic protocols. Parities of 5 or smaller and you are limited to 2 hours.

$11 to visit or $8 for students/seniors.

Would not refund due to thunderstorms
Aug 2020
Tickets are said to be nonrefundable except in case of downpours and thunderstorms. Today’s forecast called for rain and t-storms and, in fact, Opus 40 closed before 3 and cancelled their 3 pm tickets. I requested same for our 1 pm tickets in the morning, but was denied a refund and was not even offered an exchange for another date. Since you have to buy tickets in advance or they sell out this is a bad business practice. I suggest you avoid and go to one of the many wonderful places in the Hudson Valley that are not run by thieves.

Amazing artwork
Aug 2020
This art installation covers acres of beautiful land, and includes pools and tunnels and platforms and parks. You can love it as sculpture or as a place to just explore.

Great social distancing activity
Jun 2020 • Couples
My wife and I visited here on a rainy Sunday. Currently you must make a reservation. We saw a car from Vermont get turned away because they didn’t have tickets. However, once you get tickets from their website, it is a beautiful 1-2 hour activity to enjoy. Just be careful with young kids as their are steep drop offs and ledges with no fencing. Understandably, a fence would ruin the scenery. Also, you may want to bring bug spray, sunscreen, a rain jacket or otherwise just plan for the weather. Enjoy the beautiful art!

It was part of my Month long fall color trip to New England area and I was looking for something to do while in Poughkeepsie NY. Opus 40 is amazing place lots of hard work put into build the stone walls and the monument by oneman! The place is not very big but this is the place where you can take a walk and has picnic table so you can pack your picnic and enjoy.
