I booked this tour as a christmas gift for my boyfriend while we were on holiday in NYC as he loves bourbon. We were really excited to go, however I am left feeling quite apathetic about the trip. I chose this one specifically as online it was promoted as a chocolate and whisky tasting and tour which would have been both our favourites, however on arrival was told the chocolate production ended in the summer and won’t be restarting. (It’s December, that should have been updated and clear on all the booking details etc). The tour itself was interesting, it was cool to see they’ve developed a special corn for their bourbon, but the delivery was unenthusiastic. The tasting was fair, we tried two rye whiskies and a bourbon, however we didn’t get any guidance on what to taste/smell for etc. I saw another comment which recommended trying out other distillery tours and I really agree, it’s all there on the whisky side, it just needs finessing.

Visiting Widow Jane distillery’s been one of the most exciting experiences in New York. For this I have to thank Adam, who’s been kind and helpful. I didn’t visit all the distillery. I only had the chance to do a tasting with many selections of Widow Jane, all well-explained by the bar manager. I learnt many information about the Widow Jane whiskey and its making process. I enjoyed their own selections and I liked te story of the distillery. I’m pretty sure it’s got a high potential to succeed in the spirit market. I wish them luck and I look forward to taste their older selections which are still maturing in the barrels. I’d also like to thank Michele, the vice manager who’s kind to me and very welcoming. Thank you guys. I loved my visit!

This is a combination of chocolate factory and whiskey distillery. the tour is very informative, you get to know how they make the spirit and the story around the distillery name. they have a excellent Bourbon ( Widow Jane 10 years old). You can also buy chocolate there. A bit expensive though, but quite good.

Being that my wife and I like chocolate and bourbon we assumed that the tour and tasting would be a fun experience. The atmosphere far surpasses the experience. The owners/investors put a great deal of time into the construction of the building, however, the investment in staff that is equally as passionate is needed. Having toured many breweries, distilleries, and chocolatier work-shops Widow Jane falls to the bottom of the list. The main disappointment was the sampling, and what seemed as disinterest from the tour staff. Getting to Red Hook is not the easiest so providing a great experience is a must. My recommendation would be 1) stock the products you sample. 2) Provide a production exhibit showing product coming off the line or being produced. 3) This is not prohibition get a bit heavy handed with your tasting flight and chocolate. I almost put my self down for two flights of the same juice as I couldn't get a good chew for the bourbon tasting. 4) People spending $90 on .375ml don't want to sample out of plastic thimbles. Having been to Tuthill House (Hudson Baby Bourbon), Kings County, and Other Half all in the same weekend I would say Widow Jane probably should do a tour at each of those places to elevate their performance.

It was easy to purchase the tickets online for our little group of 9. We were welcomed with a whiskey sour in the adjacent bar BOTANICA. From there we started with their collection of antique chocolate making tools followed by their chocolate manufacturing facility where they go from raw beans to finished chocolate. Naturally, there were some nice sample of their chocolate. Second part of the tour followed the whiskey making process from the arrival of the water to the mash room to the still and rack house (where the barrels are stored). In the rack house you got a good smell of the angel's share. Back to the still/shop for a sample of 3 whiskey's with the opportunity to purchase samples or bottles. All in all a lovely afternoon.
