I’m lucky enough to live near this great preserve. A nice amount of trails, one leads to a beautiful shoreline, that are very do-able for kids and adults. They also have lots of programs during the year for all ages.

and interesting, but very short, hiking trails. I wouldn't go out of my way again to see this place, but if you're local, it's a great place to go for a nice peaceful walk.

You can take the LIRR (Long Island Railroad) from Penn Station to Port Washington, the last stop on the line. It's 10 minutes by car to Sand Point Preserve.

There’s no public bus service in this area but taxis from the train station wouldn’t be too expensive.
