Really had no idea what to expect with a brochure write up talking about thousands of artifacts. Well they weren't all on display, but what was took us a good couple hours to view. Totally uncrowded (I think we were the only ones in the museum that morning)...its off the beaten path on an old military base and probably only... More

We stopped in for a tour, but unbeknownst to us, we needed to reserve a tour. There was no other tourists there and the young woman greeted us right away and offered some facts about the Museum; however, couldn't provide a tour without a reservation. We did the self-guided tour, but that is not nearly as engaging as seeing the... More

I came looking for photographs of the 1915-1917 civilian military training camps that were part of what was known as The Plattsburgh Idea, and soon started volunteering to help inventory and document the many items collected here. It is a great place for children and adults to learn about this county's fascinating history.

I expected to spend 30 minutes here; it was not my first choice of museums. Instead, we were there for almost three hours. In fact they kept it open a little past their normal closing time so we could finish our tour. The guide was outstanding! I knew of Plattsburgh's role in the wars of revolution and 1812. Our guide... I've worked with this museum for nearly 40 years, starting when they were located downtown. The county historians have simply been wonderful throughout that time. Downtown, parking was an abomination. Now located on the old Plattsburgh Air Force Base grounds, they have more room and still do an excellent job. There are wonderful displays explaining the history of the Lake... More

This is a cute little building on the "old base" that was formerly dedicated to the military band. The worker was extremely knowledgeable, and provided details on the history of Plattsburgh that were thorough and unique. Collections include oddities (human hair wreath!), a rare gun from one of "Aiken's boys" (on loan), and a piece of Benedict Arnold's ship pulled... More

We had just an hour to go through the museum, but the staff were very helpful and the displays were interesting. The diorama and accompanying narrative of the two historic battles of 1776 and 1814 on Lake Champlain were a high point. The museum is not large, but there are many photos and exhibits and lots to learn about.

We went to the War of 1812 Museum that is associated with the Clinton County Historical Museum but is housed in a separate building. It is small and takes less than an hour to go through. There is a short documentary film that is well worth viewing. The displays and artifacts are interesting. I am glad that we went and... More

This is a nice museum to visit, it is large and has a lot of information packed under one roof, a really nice display of Lake Champlain and the travels that took place during the war, very interesting for sure, a must of history buffs or for anybody wanting to learn about the area.
